Excellent location in the Gothic Quarter, but not for those wanting to be close to the night life of Gracia. Less than 5 mins to the harbour/front. 2 mins to the nearest Metro station and a 10 min walk to La Ramblas/Placa de Catalunya. 20 mins from the airport. The hotel itself was very pleasant, with a good breakfast, but we felt that the main bar was understaffed. It lacked a lounge/tv area and the rooms were quite small. The tv in the bedroom only had two English speaking channels and one of those was so fuzzy you couldn't see the picture so we were stuck with the BBC World News channel. Little wardrobe space, but a fantastic bathroom. For a 4* hotel, we felt it lacked the little 'nice touches'.
Top Tip
The fish restaurants at the Playa de Mar are fabulous, especially La Gavina, if you are prepared to spend a bit. Travelling on the Metro is easy and very cheap, although its better value if you buy an extended ticket because there will always be a station nearby to hop-on-hop-off and you can use it in the evenings too. Take comfortable walking shoes, there is not one part of this city that you would not want to see. Venture out to Montserrat, its well worth the effort, not just for the religious experience, but for the breathtaking views. Not a trip for those afraid of heights!

The rooms are very small but clean. The hotel seems a bit less modern than the internet photos would indicate. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful though.

Shopping is good. We found Spanish cuisine to be very strange but when in Rome!

I think it's a pity that snacks (eg sandwiches) are not available in the bar as it means that if you want any food you are forced to go out in the evenings - not always a very practical option in a city like Barcelona if a female is travelling alone. It didn't apply in my case this time as I was with others but it could have and I think it's something people should be aware of.
