Housed in a traditional building, this 149 bedroom hotel offers modern accommodation, yet has retained some traditional features, providing a small insight to the building's history. The hotel boasts both good facilities and a great location, as it is only a few minutes' walk to Plaza Catalunya. General feedback has been that staff are friendly and efficient and that breakfast is a high point.
This hotel is housed in an art-nouveau style building, which dates from the end of the 19th century built by the famous architect Emilio Salas y Cortés (a professor of Gaudí). It was converted to a hotel, fully restored, and extended in 1998 to take in the similarly classical adjoining building. The entry hall with the marble staircase leading to the first floor has been preserved from the main building. On the first floor you will find impressive mahogany doors from Cuba and the original molded ceiling and dome. Along the building's main staircase, the wrought iron handrail has been preserved and the original paintings restored. The hotel houses 149 guestrooms, all of which are well appointed and offer a range of modern comforts. The hotel also boasts a fine restaurant, giving visitors the opportunity to sample the exquisite delicacies of Catalan cuisine. The bar and swimming pool, are located in a fine inner patio complete with greenery, in the style that is typical of Barcelona's Ensanche District.
